In reality, it was more of a very long walk with photography thrown in for fun. I’m still a bit tired and sore from carrying my backpack to full capacity, but the real trooper of the night was Sabrina, who despite the high heels she was wearing she walked all the way from the Distillery District to the Harbourfront near Rogers Centre and still managed to show a great smile for the camera. I should also point out that my lucky streak avoiding security guards came to an end yesterday, as we were kicked out of the Distillery, as well as Union Station even though we hadn’t even gone in and we also had a security guard follow us around the Skywalk. Michael, Sabrina, it was a pleasure working with you both and I hope you like the collection you’ll see displayed here. I’m really looking forward to your wedding day!

We came to know about this resort because last year we had come up with my wife’s parents and brother in-law to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary. Located inside Algonquin Park, the resort offers peace and serenity that you just can’t find in a Caribbean destination. Don’t get me wrong, I love an all-inclusive resort close to the beach as much as the next person but if you want something different, then Arowhon Pines is pretty much it. The Pride Parade had just finished, and tourists were still walking down Yonge street taking in the sights. At around 6:30pm, our afternoon was just getting started and we began our journey at Jack and Helen’s old hang out, Brookfield place. Lady luck was with us, as we were able to get quite a few shots done before security showed up and asked me put away my “professional” equipment. Apparently, you can take pictures inside Brookfield Place, as long as you are not using professional equipment for commercial purposes. Here are some images from our trip around some very recognizable spots near the waterfront. Enjoy!

Saw some familiar faces from my first meet up such as Sam Obeid and Spencer Fu, and also met a whole bunch of other great photographers who you’ll see in the following images. Why am I posting pictures and links to other photographers websites on my website? Because we all have different styles, and in the end you’ll pick the person with the style you like, and a personality that you click with. I met these guys and I’ve seen their work, and I can honestly say that I wouldn’t be upset if you go with any of them instead of me.

For that reason alone, you should be comfortable in knowing that the file you are sending to the supplier is as close as it’s going to get to the final look on press. Blurb does a terrific job at explaining every single step in the production process, to the extent that they even provide an icc profile so you can color correct your images for the final output.

Being from a Graphic Design background, I also loved the fact that I could design my book using InDesign, as opposed to some proprietary software with pre-canned templates. Does it require more work on the photographer’s side? Yes, it does. Do you want to provide your customers with the most faithful color reproduction possible, and a truly customized look? I hope all my fellow photographers do. Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of photo album companies out there, but in my humble opinion they are one of the few that give the photographer a very predictable color management workflow for their output.

That particular technique was developed by NY wedding photographer Ryan Brenizer, and basically consists of taking multiple shots (this images contains 45 frames in total) and stitching them together in Photoshop. The trick is that in order to get that tridimensional effect in the image, you have to keep the lens wide-open (again, this image was taken with a Nikon 85mm f1.4). Make sure you take the shots in jpeg medium format or at least convert them to that size in Lightroom and then stitch them together, otherwise your computer will crash trying to process all those hi-res files together.
