This past summer I had the pleasure of photographing The Jantzis at the Dempsey House in Toronto. It was a bright beautiful morning of late summer and we took full advantage of the weather to capture some really nice shots. It’s now a few days after Christmas and four (4) copies of 8″ x 8″ photo albums were given by the family to relatives as Christmas presents. At the bottom of the post you can see two pictures that show what was included in their Family Portrait Session. Make 2012 the year to give yourself or others the gift of photography.

Two of the members of Juniper, asked me to get their portraits taken for two different purposes. Pauline wanted to update her bio images for Cabernet’s website, which is a group of very talented musicians available for a variety of events. In addition, Steve (Pauline’s husband) needed some images for his upcoming online gallery called Pluto Gallery. These are just a few of the images from that session:

Last Friday I had the pleasure of photographing two very gifted piano players, Yun He Lee and John Shillingberg of the Toronto Music Academy of Canada. The reason for the session was that they needed new and fresh images for an upcoming concert (I will post the details here as soon as I have them available).

Toronto Portrait Photographer: Family Portraits at The Dempsey House

The Berkhuizens wanted to take advantage of the beautiful fall colours we were getting in early October, so we went out to the The Dempsey House to get some sections of the house as a background for the images. We were blessed with beautiful weather that day, after a few days of rain during the week. The natural light coming through the trees was amazing, but we also mixed it up with some strobes, as you will see in a couple of images.

This past Thursday, I had the privilege of photographing Amber a for private portrait session. What seemed like a doomed photo shoot due to an impending thunderstorm warning, turned into a great session with quite a few great images. Best of all, the weather held off until we left the park. The part that was not so much fun was dragging around Kata Bag with two studio strobes, a battery, and enough accessories to setup a mini studio on location. Was it worth it? Oh yeah!

What started as a book cover photo session, ended up with a few family portraits. Being a wedding and portrait photographer, you don’t have to twist my arm to photograph a couple, so that’s how I ended up capturing a few frames for Moses and Jennifer.

I can’t divulge much about this particular shoot, as it was done for a book that hasn’t been published yet. While the frames look like they were taken using the fading light from a summer sunset, it was actually late February (last Saturday) in Toronto and it had been snowing for most of the day. The lighting technique was inspired by none other than Joe McNally. Lit with one (1) SB-900 on a stand with a full CTO gel , and triggered wirelessly via Nikon’s CLS.

This image was captured in the mountains outside the town of Barbosa, province of Antioquia in Colombia. When you live that far out into the mountain, you better make sure you get everything you need on your trip to the grocery store.
