With this post I’m wrapping up the series on El Peñon de Guatape. Traveling by car, El Peñon is about a 90 minute drive from Medellin and unfortunately I cannot recommend a tour company or anything similar, as we travelled with a friend. Once you are done climbing to the top of El Peñon, you can go to the town of Guatape and check out the colorful homes on the way to the town’s plaza.

Here’s the second installment of our travel images from Colombia. The view from El Peñon was so breathtaking that I had to include this beautiful panorama, taken from the top of the rock:

The final image was actually formed with five images, taken handheld in succession and stitched together in Photoshop CS 4 using the Photomerge feature.

I haven’t posted any personal work in awhile, so I figured it was time to post a few images from our trip to Colombia. It had been three (3) years since the last time I visited and it was the first time for my wife, who had met my parents previously but none of my relatives. Today’s post comes courtesy of one of the most striking images I captured while traveling outside of Medellin to the Peñon de Guatape, which is a huge rock formation sitting atop a man-made lake. Climbing to the top of the rock is no easy task and at the halfway point you have a rest stop, which is where this picture was taken:

It was a very cold morning! I vividly remember it was -17C/1.4F on that day and I could barely press the buttons on the camera, let alone put a graduated filter over the lens. I hope you like it.

A lone businessman/employee going home after a long day at work in downtown Toronto. It was a foggy night, and everyone was eager to go home. I just happened to be an observer of a routine city scene, which unfolds day after day, regardless of the weather.

These two frames were captured at the Rogers Chinese Lantern Festival in 2008. I’d say the best time to capture the essence of the festival is right at dusk, when there’s still enough ambient light to mix with the light displays.

Yes, it’s a sunrise at Ashbridge’s Bay in Toronto. Unfortunately, it was taken on a warm summer morning, and this scene is a far cry from what that landscape looks like today in the middle of February.

Toronto Landscape Photographer – A Mountain View Outside Barbosa, Colombia.

This frame was taken in the mountains outside the town of Barbosa, in the province of Antioquia, Colombia. It’s not easy up there, if you happen to be a farmer and not a weekend tourist, but by the same token life is also simpler. The image itself is an HDR composite, with final tweaks using Nik Software’s Viveza, and some dodging and burning in Photoshop.
