I said it before and I’ll say it again, I’ll miss the Don Valley Brickworks abandoned factory in Toronto. Good memories of fashion photography shoots, or photo excursions with friends to capture the decaying structure. This particular photo was taken at the Brickworks with the collaboration of none other than Jared Wielfaert, an amazing wedding and portrait photographer based in Cleveland, TN. Jared lived in Toronto for a good number of years while working on his Ph.D at the University of Toronto, and it was during that time that I had the privilege of learning from him the use of strobes to add more drama to an image. For this particular frame, we placed an Alien Bees 1600 with an orange gel over the reflector, and a wireless transmitter attached to it in the tunnel behind the model to give the impression of a furnace running right behind her. The model was lit with a reflective umbrella placed high above to camera left.
